Made in Asia, my personal feedback (and the photos of Paris Manga progress)
Hello, my friends!
Here I am, back home in France after spending the weekend in Brussels for Made in Asia!
As you might start to notice, I love going to Belgium. People are really nice, and the conventions there are generally very well organised, with great opportunities to do some good-quality photoshoots — which, unfortunately, isn't always the case at some conventions in the Paris region!
This time, however, things didn't quite go as planned.
Made in Asia: Not quite the weekend I had in mind!
First, I made a logistical mistake and ended up losing half a day on Saturday. Then, to make things worse, I realised I'd brought the wrong lens!
This was a first for me, and I was pretty disappointed. Still, I decided to make the best of it with the lens I had. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent lens, just not the one I enjoy using most for portraits.
And, as if that weren't enough, Sunday brought some very cold weather. Since I prefer shooting outdoors, this wasn't ideal, as most cosplayers chose to stay inside the venue to keep warm. In the end, I decided to leave around 1 p.m. — although I'm still wondering whether I should have stayed longer!
As a result of all these little mishaps, I missed the opportunity to see most of my Belgian cosplayer friends, which was another big disappointment (but was happy to see again 3 of them still)
But enough complaining!
Despite everything, I still managed to meet and photograph some cosplayers who were new to me. As usual, they were very friendly, outgoing and full of positive energy, which helped make up for the less enjoyable aspects of the weekend.
All in all, I took around 750 photos of approximately 40 cosplays — a little more of what I would normally shoot in a single day!
And believe me, some of the results are absolutely breathtaking. You'll see for yourselves over the coming weeks!
There is, however, a little catch: it will take me some time before I can share them with you. Here's why…
The Paris Manga photos
I'm making progress with the Paris Manga photos, although perhaps a little more slowly than I had originally expected.
I'm hoping to finish editing the photos of my new Instagram followers by Wednesday. After that, I'll move on to the two big photoshoots I did at the convention, and finally, I'll get to the photos of my friends.
Fortunately, they know how my workflow works and are patient enough to wait… so, naturally, I'm taking advantage of that! Hehehe! 😁
Wedding photography
In parallel, I'm also editing the photos from my friend's wedding, which took place ten days ago.
I'm aiming to deliver them either this weekend or early next week. It's another project to keep me busy, but I'm really happy to be working on it!
Paris Games Week: Am I going or not?
And finally, there's one question I still haven't answered: Should I go to Paris Games Week over the upcoming long weekend?
It was originally on my schedule, but my experience last year was somewhat disappointing. On top of that, I've been checking whether some of my friends are planning to attend, and so far, most of them aren't.
So, I'll probably make my decision at the last minute — on Wednesday!
Well, that's all for now, my friends!
I hope you all have a great week, and that you're enjoying the photos I'm sharing on Instagram. There are more to come, so stay tuned!
Cheers,
Khaled

Harajuku photos and the big news: Corrida de Noël!
Hello, my friends!
A quick post to give you my latest news:
1. Harajuku Festival
The Harajuku Festival photos are currently being edited, and I have to say that some of them are really beautiful!
As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m working on the photos from the programmed photoshoots first, while also editing photos of the new people who have started following me on Instagram. The photos of my “old” friends will come a little later — they know I always end up getting to them eventually!
So far, I’ve completed around 40% of the total, and I expect to have everything finished just before Paris Manga.
I’ll also be using some of the Harajuku photos as part of the revamp of this website, and I’ll let you know when the new version is ready!
2. Paris Manga
I wasn't sure whether I would attend Paris Manga this time, but since I do want to see some friends and, of course, photograph some great cosplays, I finally decided to go!
I’ll be offering one free long-format photoshoot on Sunday, under a few conditions:
You must be 18 or older.
You must not have had a long-format photoshoot with me before — this should be our first long-format collaboration.
You should be available early enough in the morning, before the convention gets too crowded.
You should have an interesting cosplay project and send me some details about it.
I will make the final selection. If two projects are equally interesting, I may decide to do both!
So, if you’re interested, feel free to contact me with your project!
3. Wedding photography
In two weeks, I’ll be photographing my very first wedding!
I’ve already started preparing for it, and I’m really looking forward to this new experience. I’ll keep you updated and, of course, tell you more about it afterwards.
4. Corrida de Noël
In Issy-les-Moulineaux, where I live, there is a yearly race called the Corrida de Noël. This year, it will take place on December 13th, and thousands of people will take part, many of them dressed as Christmas-themed characters. YOU SHOULD COME to watch or even to participate, it’s really fun!
And I have some great news: this year, I’ve been accredited as one of the official photographers of the event!
I’m really happy about this opportunity. I just hope the weather will be kind to us! I’ll definitely share some of my favourite photos here on the blog and on my new Instagram account, @kelkadi19_portraits.
Well, that’s it for now!
I’ll be back next week with more news, so stay tuned!
Take care,
Khaled
New account on Instagram and Harajuku feedback
Hello, my friends!
I know I haven’t been writing here very often, and I’m sorry about that. But this is going to change over the coming weeks: I’ll be back with more regular updates about my activities and what’s happening in the world of my photography. I promise!
And I have some important news to share with you.
First: a new Instagram account!
I’ve started a new Instagram account where I’ll be posting portraits unrelated to cosplay.
This is quite an important step for me. Over time, I somehow became very strongly associated with cosplay photography, even though I’m also a portrait photographer. As a result, I didn’t really have a suitable place on social media to showcase my non-cosplay work.
The new account, @kelkadi19_portraits, is still connected to my main cosplay photography account, but it will give me the opportunity to show a different side of what I can do as a photographer.
This is also part of my preparation for upcoming assignments that have nothing to do with cosplay — weddings, private parties, celebrations, gatherings, and other events where I’ll be working as the main photographer.
I’ve already started posting some photos from my backlog, and I’ll continue adding more over the coming weeks. So, if you’re interested, go and follow the new account!
I’ll also be sharing some of these photos here on my website.
Harajuku Festival
The Harajuku Festival in Paris took place this past weekend, and it was quite an interesting experience.
For the first time, I had a full-time assistant with me — actually, a cosplayer friend who volunteered to help. She did a fantastic job, especially with backstage photos and videos, and I really appreciated the results that I will be sharing in the coming days!
Having an assistant also made it easier to approach cosplayers who didn't know me. Since the event is free and offers very good conditions for photoshoots, it attracts a lot of photographers. As a result, some cosplayers can understandably be a little wary of all these strangers with cameras walking around.
Still, things weren't easy. On the first day, I actually experienced an all-time record for negative responses when proposing spontaneous photoshoots!
Fortunately, things improved considerably on the second day. We understood what was causing the problem and adapted our approach, which made a real difference.
The numbers
By the end of the weekend, I had completed three full photoshoots. I was originally supposed to have five, but unfortunately, last-minute cancellations happen — sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for less fortunate ones.
I also photographed 30 new cosplayers and 25 cosplayers I already knew, for a total of around 1,600 photos taken over the weekend.
The next step is, of course, the editing.
As usual, I’ll start with the dedicated photoshoots, followed by the photos of the new people I met, and finally the photos of my friends — who, thankfully, are patient with me and know how my workflow works!
I expect to have the photos ready before the Paris Manga convention, which takes place in about three weeks. I will most probably be there for at least one day, most likely Sunday.
So, that’s all for now!
I’ll keep you updated on the progress of the Harajuku photos and on my new non-cosplay portrait activities, so stay tuned!
Take care,
Khaled
Long time no see!
Hello, friends!
It’s been a while since my last post here. Well, I think you can understand why: it’s summer, and holidays tend to take priority. But that’s not the only reason I’ve been quiet.
Anyway, here I am, at the end of my vacation. I’m a little sad, as we usually are when holidays come to an end, but at the same time, I’m looking forward to the new opportunities ahead!
Let’s start with the basics.
I finally managed to finish editing all the photos I took at Japan Expo, after the usual preselection process. I ended up with just under 800 edited photos, out of the roughly 3,000 I took during the convention.
Overall, I’m very happy with the results. This is especially true for two photoshoots I had serious doubts about at the time. The conditions were terrible: huge crowds, extreme heat, and challenging lighting. Yet, despite all that, they ended up producing some truly stunning shots. Sometimes photography has a funny way of surprising you!
I’m still posting some of these photos and will continue doing so until the Harajuku Festival at Parc de Bercy.
That said, I’ve once again run into some of the usual problems. I still have some beautiful photos where I simply cannot identify the cosplayers on Instagram, while in other cases, people receive their photos and then disappear without a word.
Every time this happens, I tell myself: “I really should change the way I do things.” But then I get caught up in the moment and carry on as usual... hehehe!
Well, this time I really am going to change things.
Starting with the next convention, I will completely rethink my policy regarding the editing, publishing and sharing of photos. I’ll tell you more about the new approach when the time comes.
Next stop: Harajuku!
Speaking of the next convention, the obvious next stop is Harajuku Festival, on September 12th and 13th.
I had originally considered going to Parco Sigurtà in Italy, where a major cosplay event will take place from September 4th to 6th. But with Harajuku less than a week later, I decided that doing both would simply be too much.
Still, if Harajuku doesn't turn out to be the experience I'm hoping for this year, then next year... Sigurtà it is!
For now, things are still a little uncertain. I have my reasons for saying that, but I won't go into them here. If you're curious, I can give you more details privately.
So, let's see how things develop over the next four weeks.
And what comes after?
I’m still undecided about Paris Manga.
The new venue really wasn't to my liking, but I may still go if I receive enough photoshoot requests to justify being there.
In parallel with my cosplay photography activities, I’ll also be doing some event photography, including a wedding in October as well as a few other celebrations. I’m really happy about these new opportunities, and I’ll tell you more about them when the time comes — without revealing too much in advance, of course!
And that's about it for my news.
I hope you've had, or are still having, a great summer and some wonderful holidays.
Talk to you soon!
Khaled
Feedback on Japan Expo: Extreme heat, a lot of photoshoots.
Hello, dear friends!
This is the first time I'm writing in English on my blog. The idea is to reach those of you who don't speak French and, until now, couldn't keep up with my updates. (Fortunately, my French readers usually have no trouble reading English!)
It's been a while since I last wrote here, so I'm back with my thoughts on Japan Expo, which took place just north of Paris.
So... where do I start?
Let's begin with a few numbers. The convention lasted four days, and I attended all four. During the event, I completed 10 scheduled photoshoots and 99 spontaneous mini-shoots, taking a total of 2,900 photos.
The weather conditions were honestly terrible. The extreme heat made every day physically demanding. Unfortunately, this is something we're probably going to have to get used to during summer—and even spring, as I already mentioned in my previous blog post about Japan Party.
From an organizational standpoint, however, I really have nothing to complain about.
Access to the convention was surprisingly smooth on all four days, especially compared to the 2025 edition, which was a real nightmare. The exhibition halls were very well air-conditioned—which was absolutely essential given the temperatures outside. I also used the shuttle buses between the parking area and the venue. The service was decent; adding two or three extra buses would have made it even better, but overall it worked well enough.
Even the 37 km drive from my home to the convention was relatively free of major traffic jams, probably thanks to the holiday season.
Now, let's talk about the convention itself.
Day 1
I managed to complete all my scheduled photoshoots in the morning. One of them had originally been planned for the end of the day, but fortunately we were able to move it earlier. The rest of the day was spent wandering around the convention, meeting people, and doing spontaneous shoots.
By around 4:30 p.m., though, my batteries were completely drained, so I headed home as soon as I could. As it turned out, that became the pattern for the following days as well.
Day 2
Very similar to the first day. The cosplayers I was supposed to photograph early in the day arrived later than planned—which, unfortunately, happens quite often. Despite that, I really enjoyed the photoshoots, even with the constant crowds all around us. The rest of the day was again dedicated to spontaneous portraits.
Day 3
A pleasant surprise! The cosplayer actually arrived early at our meeting point... although I was already there. 😄 The shoot went smoothly, and we had a great time.
Day 4
Definitely the most demanding day.
I had four scheduled photoshoots, two of which were arranged at the very last minute because of scheduling changes on the cosplayers' side. It made for a very busy—but enjoyable—final day.
As always, Japan Expo isn't the easiest convention for catching up with friends.
For one thing, even when I do run into people I know, I often don't recognize them immediately once they're in costume! And with such an enormous crowd, it's incredibly easy to miss people altogether.
Every year, friends travel from all over France, as well as from Belgium, Germany, the UK, Poland, Ukraine, Spain, and many other countries. When I don't get the chance to see them, I always leave the convention with a slight feeling of disappointment. The same goes for some of the "usual suspects" that I normally meet at almost every convention but somehow never crossed paths with this time.
I even tried posting Instagram Stories explaining exactly where I would be throughout the day, hoping people would find me. Unfortunately, as usual, Instagram's algorithm had other plans—my Stories typically reach only about 10–15% of my followers.
Anyway... now it's time to dive into the editing process.
As always, I'll begin with the scheduled photoshoots, while also editing photos of the new people I met so they don't have to wait too long. My longtime friends already know how I work—they're patient, and I'm very grateful for that.
I expect the whole editing process to take around three weeks. After that, I'll finally be able to catch my breath before I start preparing for my next convention: Harajuku Paris.
That's all for now!
I'll be back every Monday over the next few weeks with updates on my progress, so stay tuned!
P.S. Before I forget: some of you asked me about the poll to choose my two best photos from the first half of 2026.
Everything went well, and the two winning photos are now pinned at the top of my Instagram profile.
However, I noticed that a few people misunderstood the purpose of the poll, so I'd like to clarify it once again: the goal was to choose my best photographs—not the best cosplay or the best cosplayer. I'm not a cosplay judge or coach; I'm a portrait photographer. 😊
Cheers, everyone!

Khaled
